Angelenos ready for liftoff can visit the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, home of the space shuttle Endeavour, starting Nov. 13, the California Science Center announced Wednesday.
The Space Center will be the only place in the world where visitors can see an authentic space shuttle, displayed in launch position within the 20-story building. Starting in November, the gallery will also offer interactive experiences, including a 140-foot elevator ride along the shuttle stack to teach visitors about preparing for launch. Visitors can take the 115-foot-long shuttle slide down 45 feet in elevation, to simulate the experience of landing with bright orange light and sound effects to mimic breaking the sound barrier on return. Guests will also be able to sit inside a replica flight deck and get a picture of what it is like to pilot.
